Become a Cacao Guardian: Protect Farmers, Forests, and Traditions

At Xocolatl House, we are dedicated to supporting cacao farmers and preserving the rich traditions of cacao cultivation in Tabasco, Mexico. Through our Cacao Guardian initiative, we invite you to join a movement that safeguards cacao lands, empowers farming families, and nurtures the environment.

The Challenges Facing Cacao Farmers

Cacao farmers are confronting increasing challenges due to climate change, threatening the delicate ecosystems essential for cultivation. Rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, and deforestation make it increasingly challenging to maintain healthy cacao plantations.

Cacao trees flourish in biodiverse environments, growing under the shade of native trees such as:

  • Cinnamon
  • Plantain
  • Pepper
  • Achiote (Annatto)

These companion plants enrich the soil and protect cacao crops. Unfortunately, many farms struggle to maintain this ecosystem, leading to land degradation and reduced harvests.

Introducing the Cacao Guardian Project
